Cigar Box Slim and the Smokebox Revival

Cigar Box Slim and his band are the most unique and rockin'-est band in the Upstate! At the heart of the band is Slim's homemade double neck, seven string electrified cigar box guitar, which he calls "Ol' JB". It features a 3 string "Blues" neck and a 4 string lap steel neck. With this combination Ol' Slim can crank out anything from The Rolling Stones to Merle Haggard! Slim built his beast in tribute to Junior Brown's "guit-steel". Says Slim, "...yeah, and since I built this thing I haven't even played any of my store bought guitars...".

Slim was born in Texas and raised right on the Louisiana state line. He got the best of Texas swing/blues and Cajun music growing up. He incorporates a little of both into his style of music.

If you ever get an opportunity to see "The little ol' boogie band from South Carolina" don't let it pass you by! The sound that Cigar Box Slim gets out of this homemade instrument is truly unbelievable.

Somewhere, lurking in the shadows of Country, Blues and Southern Rock, Cigar Box Slim can be found. With his double neck 7 string homemade cigar box guitar, which he calls "Ol' JB" (in tribute to Junior Brown's "guit-steel"),
he can really rip out some awesome sounds! His double neck guitar features a 3 string "blues neck" and a 4 string lap steel neck. Says Slim, "Since I built this ol' thang I haven't even touched any of my other guitars", which include a 1974 20th Anniversary Les Paul Custom, 1969 Fender Tele Thinline and a Hofner Verithin Standard.

Slim hails from Louisiana. He grew up around Lake Charles, which is right on the border with Texas. He got the best of Cajun music as well as Texas swing/blues growing up.

If you ever have the opportunity to see Slim perform with "Ol' JB" don't let it pass you by!
