MEMBERS TIPS - by Doctor Oakroot

1. Describe your cbg. (construction, box, strings)

CBG 1: Padron box, upside down so the box bottom is the guitar top; Poplar 1x3 cut down for the neck, with oak finger board. Construction is neck carry through with the carry through cut away from the sound board, designed so that once the finger board is glued on the neck is locked in place. Augustine "blue" classical guitar strings. Origial tuners were hand made friction tuners but I couldn't keep it in tune, so replaceed with Stew-Mac econ tuners.

CBG 2: Smaller Padron box. Generally similar construction but I dropped the interlocking design. The head stock is bent back 45 degrees (by cutting and regluing the poplar neck). Augustine "red" strings plus a length of 25 pound fishing line (for 7 strings total).

CBG 3: (Actually a pizza box). Oak dowel with two Stew-Mac econ tuners mounted. Pizza box screwed in place. Designed so that the pizza box is easily replaceable. Two cheapo electric guitar strings (a D and B, I think).

2. What have you done to make it "concert ready?"

CBG 1 has a radio shack buzzer installed.

CBG 2 same thing coming as soon as I get to radio shack.

CBG 3 I'm thinking of mounting a sound-hole acoustic guitar pickup (I happen to have one lying around).

3. Have you had any problems with it live? If so, how have you dealt with it?

CBG 1 was used in one live show before the pickup was installed - OK, but quiet. The pickup hasn't been used live yet, but held up well in tests (playing in front of the PA speaker at moderate volume).

4. Have you become so addicted to the cbg that you have shelved your other guitars temporarily?

Yes.

5. Do you have a name for your cbg (such as Johnny Lowe's "Lowebow", Rollie Tussings "Subverso Fiddle" and Kurt Schoen's "TurboDiddley")?

No
